  • Do I have to keep coming back over and over?
Some injuries require ongoing care. But, for the most part, I am very conservative in my treatment protocols. I strive to provide you relief in as few visits as possible. You are in control of the care you receive. I will give you my professional recommendations but it is ultimately up to you as to when you feel you have received the most benefit from my care. I have been in your position and will not make you feel guilty or treat you differently if you don’t follow my recommendations toward care. You are always welcome back at my office.
  • Will it hurt?
I utilize many different chiropractic techniques. Some techniques are very gentle and some are a bit more aggressive. I will work with you to provide you the care that you need with results that you desire. You are always in control of the care you receive.
  • Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?
The hands-on nature of the chiropractic treatment is essentially what requires patients to visit the chiropractor a number of times. To be treated by a chiropractor, a patient needs to be in his or her office. In contrast, a course of treatment from medical doctors often involves a pre-established plan that is conducted at home (i.e. taking a course of antibiotics once a day for a couple of weeks). A chiropractor may provide acute, chronic, and/or preventive care thus making a certain number of visits sometimes necessary. Your doctor of chiropractic should tell you the extent of treatment recommended and ...
  • Will I get treated on the first visit?
Treatment is provided on the first visit to the office.
  • Do I need to disrobe?
My technique allows you to keep your clothes on at all times.
  • How much will it cost for treatment?
A regular office visit with chiropractic manipulation is $50. If additional time and physiotherapies are needed, it may result in an additional cost of $25.
  • Will Dr Bockelmann work with my Personal Care Physician?
I work closely with many of the local physicians. Your heath is my utmost concern. I enjoy working with other providers to offer you the best care possible. I am happy to consult with or provide my treatment notes to you or your PCP at any time.
  • Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
Adjustment (or manipulation) of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved.
  • How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractic physician typically uses his or her hands–or an instrument–to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient’s pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.
  • Do I need x-rays?
I do not take x-rays in the office. If x-rays are deemed necessary, EPMC has been very good about taking my referrals to their radiology department. I do read a lot of x-rays so if you already have them, bring them with you on your first visit whether they are hard copy or on a disk. I will go through them with you.
  • What type of chiropractic techniques are utilized in the office?
I take a hands-on approach. I evaluate your spine or other joints for misalignments or restrictions. Freeing up the joint restrictions or correcting the position or alignment of the bones all occur with a gentle manipulation of the joint. This may result in a “popping” sound as the normal position and motion of the joint is restored.
  • Will Insurance Cover the Cost of Care?
In an effort to keep our prices as low as possible, we do not bill insurance other than Medicare, work injury and auto accident cases.
